Navigating the Future: Unpacking Australia’s 2063 Work Landscape

To what extent are you considering future trends, when making career decisions today?

Check out my recent blog on some of the major shifts expected to impact our lives over the next 40 years.

Career musings to ponder…on the #futureofwork #intergenerational report #ageingpopulation #populationgrowth

After reading the recently released Intergenerational Report, which attempts to map Australia’s future to 2063, there are a few things I wanted to put up for discussion about working and careers.

The report finds (amongst others):

  1. We’re living longer
  2. Slowing population growth
  3. Decline in working age population
  4. Slower pace of economic growth

I’m curious:

  • What does this mean for designing a sustainable career over many decades?
  • What will ‘retirement’ look like?
  • What impact will this have on career pathways in sectors like health, housing and aged care?
  • What organisational and workplace changes are needed to attract and retain mature workers to bolster their income?
  • What skills do we all need to build now to prepare ourselves for working longer or in different sectors?
  • What does this mean for younger people?

Perhaps choosing to become ‘full-time children‘ is the answer? In this article, folks are opting out of work and staying home to care for parents who pay them a salary. Is this the solution to a few of these future issues?
